HOTEL review: Castle Hotel & Spa (Tarrytown, New York)

Looking for unique places around New York we stumbled upon one place. This was a massive stunning 19th century REAL castle turned into hotel which reopened in 2013 as The Castle Hotel & Spa.

Room Type: Luxury Suite “The Kilburn Suite”

PROS

• Unique rooms design with one-of-a-kind art objects, furniture and décor objects. Prices start at $209 per night up to approximately $500 per night (off-season).

• Specious room, especially for New York area. Our suite was approximately 1000 sq. feet!

• The bed and mattress were really good. One of the best sleep ever in a hotel.

• Free breakfast

• Free parking (self-parking only, valet not available at the moment)

• Amazing lake and mountains view.

• Complimentary cookies and coffee

• Luxurious Bath amenity

• WI-FI is available at all areas and is free of charge.

• Beautiful “Grand Hall” for special events.

• The stuff was very nice. They even made a private castle tour for us.

CONS

• Limited food options. Unfortunately, onsite Equus restaurant which has a Michelin star was temporally closed. Only a small fridge-stand with to-go snacks, drinks and wine was available at the reception (extra charge). It had a very good range of wine from the cellar. Various souvenirs were also available.

• Sankara Spa – temporally closed.

• No housekeeping (temporary restriction)

• Outdoor pool was closed for the season.

TIPS:

• If you want to stay in the original castle, make sure you book a “Luxury suite”. Standard rooms and Junior suites are at an adjustment newly added wing which was not part of the original castle back in the day.

Overall experience: It was Awesome! You literally feel like a royal family here. There were only few guests except for us, we felt like the whole castle was to ourselves. Unique.
